(NEW YORK) — Chew on this: ABC’s daytime program The Chew hits a delicious milestone on Thursday.
The Chew will air its 1,000th show at 1 p.m. Eastern time. The Daytime Emmy-winning program, featuring Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Clinton Kelly, Carla Hall and Daphne Oz, premiered five years ago, and has offered tips and talk on food, lifestyle and entertainment topics ever since.
The hosts all agree that they didn’t think at first the show would make it this far. In an interview with ABC News, Oz reflected, “[T]he first day we were like, ‘WHAT is going on here?’ And then it’s been a magic ride ever since. It’s crazy.”
Hall and Oz joke that the milestone episode will include, in the words of Hall, “a lot of embarrassing moments.”
Batali adds, “I’m sure you’re going to see a lot of this stuff that shows us interacting with people in ways that you can’t interact on other TV shows.”
He emphasizes how fun it is for the hosts to pass along their expertise to the viewers. “It’s also very satisfying to know that when you cook something and you make something for somebody. Then they watch it, they make it for themselves, modify it a little but, they take it on their own way, and it becomes like a game of telephone,” he explains.
