“The Bachelorette” Recap: Things Get Tense Between Chad and Evan

ABC/Craig Sjodin(NEW YORK) — The tension between Chad and the other men on The Bachelorette reached dangerous levels on Monday night’s episode — so much so that host Chris Harrison had to intervene.

The Chad drama heightened when he complained about participating in the group date, rather than a one-on-one date with “Bachelorette” JoJo Fletcher. “I don’t want to go with 12 guys, that’s too many guys,” he declared.

On the group date, a comedy show in which the men shared embarrassing sex stories, Evan, an erectile dysfunction specialist, took the mic and essentially suggested Chad is a steroid user. The two had an altercation immediately afterward.

The back-and-forth between Chad and Evan didn’t end there — Chad would go on to put his hands on Evan. Evan countered later by asking him, “Why are you here?”

Chad claimed to JoJo that Evan was “bullying the bully.” JoJo logically advised him to stop being a bully, a label that Chad said was inaccurate.

When Evan told JoJo he’d leave the competition if Chad sticks around, it seemed for a moment as if he might get an early hook. Instead, JoJo offered him the group date rose. A stunned Chad asked, “Is this real? Is this a real scenario right now?”

JoJo knocked him down a peg, lecturing him to stop being disrespectful to the others. “I don’t like this side of you,” she said.

Toward the end of the episode, Evan met with Harrison to express his concerns about the Chad situation, saying the show’s security team was not enough protection. Harrison, saying he was concerned about potential threats of violence, discussed the matter with Chad, who argued, “I didn’t start anything.”

Harrison told him that he wouldn’t be kicked off, but he had to settle things with the other guys. Chad’s way of settling things? Confiding to the cameras he wanted to cut everyone’s limbs off. That set the stage for a special episode airing Tuesday night.

Aside from the Chad story line, JoJo went on two one-on-one dates on Monday night, first with Chase, with whom she had a steamy yoga session. After he received a rose, he and JoJo took in a performance by Charles Kelley of the country group Lady Antebellum.

James Taylor earned the invite for the other one-on-one date, which involved swing dancing. He got a rose, too, and performed a song for JoJo.

We’ll find out if Chad really does tear some limbs when The Bachelorette continues Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.
