(LOS ANGELES) — Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s marriage is reportedly over.
The actress filed for divorce earlier this week, TMZ reports.
Depp, 52, and Heard, 30, first met on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009 and married in February 2015. Almost immediately, the couple was dogged by tabloid rumors that their relationship was on the skids. Heard, however, shot down such reports last December.
“I try not to react to the horrible misrepresentation of our lives,” she told Marie Claire, “but it is strange, and hard.”
Still, there were aspects of the marriage that made her uncomfortable. Last June, Heard admitted to Elle that she was afraid that Depp’s fame would make it tougher for her to lead a private life. Her independence, she said, was important to her.
“I never want for my life to lose the ability to transverse the world, with freedom and ease. The freedom and ease I have worked so hard to acquire for myself,” she said.
Depp and Heard made waves earlier this year with their now-infamous apology video regarding her causing an international incident when they sneaked her tiny Yorkshire Terriers into Australia.
This was the first marriage for both actors, though Depp was previously in a long-term relationship with French actress Vanessa Paradis. They have two children together, Lily-Rose, 16, and Jack, 14.
