Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — Saying “She hasn’t left a void. She’s left a blast crater,” comic and actor Patton Oswalt has penned a moving tribute to his late wife, crime writer Michelle McNamara, who died unexpectedly in her sleep April 21 at age 46.

“I loved her,” Oswalt writes in TIME magazine. “This is the first time I’ve been able to use ‘I’ writing this. Probably because there hasn’t been much of an “I” since the morning of April 21. There probably won’t be for a while.”

Oswalt briefly recounts his late wife’s life, both professional and personal, before ending with a statement their young daughter, Alice, made five days after her mother’s death: “When your mom dies you’re the best memory of her. Everything you do and say is a memory of her.”

“That’s the kind of person Michelle created and helped shape,” Oswalt concludes.  “That was Michelle. That is Michelle.  I love her.”
