(NEW YORK) — She may have done time herself, but Martha Stewart doesn’t watch Orange Is the New Black.
In an appearance with Chelsea Handler on her Netflix talk show, the lifestyle media mogul, who served five months in federal prison on charges relating to insider stock trading, demurred when Handler jokingly asked, “Too close to home?”
Stewart served time at Danbury Federal Correctional Institution, the prison on which OITNB‘s fictional Litchfield Penitentiary is based.
But Stewart did say, “When you live through something like Orange Is the New Black, the real characters are better.”
So what did Stewart watch while she was locked up? “In prison it was BET television at all times,” Stewart said, adding that the choices were limited by the fact that there was a single television for the inmates. “I had to get up really early to watch the news,” she said.
