A year ago, nobody knew who Maddie Poppe was. Now, she’s the reigning American Idol champ who’s released singles and videos, won a People’s Choice Award, toured across the country and is working on her debut album. And while she’s got plenty to be thankful for this Thursday, none of them stand out to her as much as her boyfriend, American Idol runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson.
“I feel like I’m very in love with Caleb, and I feel like I finally met my person, y’know?” she tells ABC Radio. “But also, my family has been so great, not only here recently, when all of this has happened for me, but just my whole life, and just to have them always, no matter what.”
But all the people — famous and non-famous — who Maddie has come into contact with as a result of American Idol and her subsequent music career are also worthy of her gratitude.
“I’m very thankful for all the people I’ve met along this journey, I’ve met so many new people this year…I feel like I spend all my time with [them],” she tells ABC Radio. “I’m so thankful that I just have a lot of people on my side, in my corner. So I’m very thankful for that.”
She laughs, “And I’m so thankful to be healthy, and to have won the show and….I should make a list!”
While she’s making the list, Maddie will be going home to Iowa to enjoy her favorite Thanksgiving dish.
“My grandma makes really good stuffing and really good gravy,” she says. “Do people call it stuffing or dressing? Caleb calls it dressing! So…that’s weird.”
