Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”; Lucasfilm/Disney(NEW YORK) — The Olympics went to the dark side on Thursday night with an appearance by Darth Vader.

A new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiered during NBC’s primetime coverage of the Summer Games, and it offered just as much drama as the athletic competition itself.

The two-minute, 15-second clip showed Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, the leader of the rebel spies.

“We’ve a mission for you. A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know how to destroy it,” she’s told.

After the usual assortment of visually stunning battles that Star Wars fans have come to expect, the trailer ends with a cameo by Darth Vader, who’s seen from behind. His distinct, heavy breathing can be heard.

James Earl Jones is back as the voice of the iconic villain for Rogue One.

If you missed the trailer on TV, you can watch it now on the official Star Wars YouTube page.  As of early Friday morning, it already had over a million views.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place just before the events of the first Star Wars film, 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, and tells the story of the rebel spies who stole those plans for the Death Star, which later enabled Luke Skywalker and the rebels to destroy it.

The spin-off, also starring Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen and Alan Tudyk, will be released December 16 by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
