Warner Bros.(NEW YORK) — Warner Bros. is planning a sequel to its upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as wizard Newt Scamander.
The studio announced Wednesday that a follow-up will be released November 16, 2018.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who wrote Fantastic Beasts, will pen the sequel, which “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.”
Director David Yates, who helmed the final four Harry Potter movies as well as Fantastic Beasts, will be back, too. Warner Bros. didn’t confirm whether Redmayne and other cast members like Ezra Miller and Katherine Waterston will return.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, focusing on Scamander, a wizard who arrives in New York in the 1920s and loses some of his fantastic beasts, opens November 18.
