“Rugrats,” “Bob Newhart Show” Actor Jack Riley Dies

L-R: Bob Newhart and Jack Riley in 2007; Michael Buckner/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — To fans of a certain generation, he was best-known as Elliot Carlin, Dr. Bob Hartley’s neurotic patient on the 1970s hit sitcom The Bob Newhart Show.  Actor Jack Riley, whose career spanned some five decades, died Friday in Los Angeles of complications from pneumonia.  He was 80.

Riley was better known to younger generations as the voice of Stu Pickles in the animated kids’ show Rugrats.  He had hundreds of TV, film and voiceover roles during his career, including TV series like Seinfeld and Night Court, and the Mel Brooks movies History of the World: Part I, High Anxiety and Spaceballs.

Riley’s final listed credit was from 2011, according to IMDB, a voiceover part on the animated The Garfield Show.
