Lionsgate plans to conclude the film series with a television movie that would set things up for a Divergent TV show, Variety reports.
The aim is to have the franchise’s movie cast, including Shailene Woodley, return for The Divergent Series: Ascendant TV movie, then introduce new stars for the TV series. However, it’s currently unclear if the original cast members will be back for the TV movie.
Variety notes that Lionsgate has yet to pitch its plans to networks.
The Divergent Series: Ascendant, the fourth film in the post-apocalyptic movie series, had been slated to hit theaters next June.
The third Divergent movie, Allegiant, opened this past March and grossed 66 million dollars at the domestic box office.
The franchise is based on the popular book series by Veronica Roth.
