Paul & Ringo Attend “The Beatles LOVE” 10th Anniversary Performance

Paul McCartney and wife Nancy Shevell; Bryan Steffy/FilmMagic(LAS VEGAS) — Paul McCartney last night called it “the greatest show in Vegas.”  Then again, he’s a little biased: The Beatles LOVE is about his old band, after all.  And Thursday, it celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Not only was Paul there, but also Ringo Starr, John Lennon widow Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, widow of George Harrison, all of whom also attended the Cirque du Soleil show’s opening in 2006.  The show itself, at the Mirage Casino, was recently re-worked by the Cirque team as well as by Giles Martin, who’d collaborated with his father, the late Beatles producer Sir George Martin, on the original soundtrack.  In addition to changing a few songs, some performances were altered, a new sound system was installed in the theater in the round, and the set was partially redesigned.

Giles Martin says it was vital to re-work the show because, odd as it sounds, “The music doesn’t get old, and it means so much to people it’s important that we keep the show up to date with the music.”

Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia weren’t very prominent on the pre-show re-carpet.  Paul and Ringo each darted past most of the reporters in either silence or with very limited comments, and posed for very few photos.  Yoko spoke to the print media briefly at one end of the carpet before disappearing, while Harrison was nowhere to be seen.

At the end of the show, however, Paul and Ringo took the stage, praising the cast.  “These people are fantastic,” said Paul.  “Unbelievable.  Just the greatest show in Vegas.”

As for the fans: “We love you,” said Paul in conclusion.  “Love is all you need.”
