Marvel’s “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage,” “The Defenders” — Netflix Socks It to Comic-Con

1013

Marvel/NetflixAs its hard-hitting “Hell’s Kitchen Heroes” would, Marvel came out swinging at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday, with a slew of news and new footage from its Netflix shows.

Not only did they release a full teaser to this fall’s Luke Cage, but also a “first look” at the upcoming Iron Fist, and teasers for both the third season of Daredevil, and The Defenders, the series that will unite each of the series titular heroes — as well as Kysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones — into one Avengers-like team.

Luke Cage hits the streaming service first, debuting on September 20. In the series, Mike Colter reprises his Jessica Jones role as Cage, a wrongly-accused fugitive left super-strong and unbreakable after an experiment. The series will see Luke relocating uptown from Jones’ and Daredevil’s home turf of Hell’s Kitchen to Harlem, where Cage will take on criminal kingpin Cottonmouth Stokes, the cousin of a local politician played by Alfre Woodard

“…I’m not wearing a costume,” Colter says of Cage. “I’m a street-level hero. And what I’m trying to do is work on saving the community.” He adds of the anticipated series, “It’s really grounded.”

Iron Fist follows Danny Rand (Finn Jones), the son of a murdered business mogul who masters martial arts — and eventually a mystical power that makes his fists inhumanly strong — to avenge his murdered parents. The show debuts in 2017, as does Defenders.

Release dates for a second season of JonesDaredevil season 3, and a Punisher series haven’t been released.
