(NEW YORK) — With the ABC hit drama Scandal, Kerry Washington has made history and garnered ratings gold. Now, the actress is becoming a real boss with her latest power move.
Variety reports Washington has inked an overall deal with ABC Studios and ABC Signature, which will expand her behind-the-camera work, developing broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively.
Washington recently launched her own production company, Simpson Street, which debuted with HBO’s acclaimed film Confirmation — in which she starred as Anita Hill in the midst of Clarence Thomas’ infamous Supreme Court confirmation hearings. Washington also has a nanny-themed comedy-drama from Shondaland in development.
“I believe strongly in the importance of having a seat at the table which makes starting this production company thrilling for me. It’s an honor to be at a point in my career when I can help generate projects that are exciting, necessary, and truly reflect the world around us,” Washington said in a statement. “I’m grateful to be on this journey with ABC, a network that remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
Washington has starred on Shonda Rhimes’ sizzling hot Scandal since 2012. Currently nearing the end of its fifth season, the Washington, D.C.-based drama has been renewed for a sixth season.
