Kaley Cuoco in “The Big Bang Theory”; Michael Yarish/Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.(NEW YORK) — Kaley Cuoco apologized on Tuesday for a controversial Fourth of July photo she posted on Instagram a day earlier that showed her dog sitting on an American flag.

Next to a picture of a heart-shaped American flag, the star of The Big Bang Theory writes of the now-deleted photo, “First off, please know, I have the utmost respect for my country. I am a proud American in every sense of the word. I understand the American flag stands for our freedom and represents American heroes, past and present.”

Cuoco, 30, calls the pic “a mistake,” adding that “living in the public eye, can be extremely difficult at times.”

She concludes by noting, “Every mistake and every imperfection is amplified. I am not perfect. I am a proud American, today, tomorrow, always.”

The Big Bang Theory returns for its 10th season September 19 on CBS.
