Taped weeks ago, the episode was an opportunity for Mrs. Obama to promote her Let Girls Learn initiative she started with the President to help more than 60 million girls around the world stay in school.
FLOTUS jumped in the car with Corden as he played tourist at the White House. Wearing a sleeveless pink and white dress, she highlighted a couple of places on the executive compound and made small talk before the two got down to business.
Citing Stevie Wonder as her favorite artist, Mrs. Obama joined Corden for a spirited version of Wonder’s 1970 classic, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”
Corden asked Mrs. Obama what she would miss most about the White House when she and the President leave in January, and she said she would miss the people she spent time with and worked closely with over their years there.
The two discussed secret service code names — hers is Renaissance, the President’s is Renegade and Corden wants to be Papa Smurf or Tiramisu — and then the First Lady got her Beyoncé on doing “Single Ladies,” and killed it with her seated choreography.
She and Corden also colaborated on the Kelly Clarkson song “This Is for My Girls,” which Dianne Warrenpenned for the Let Girls Learn initiative. The duo was joined by Missy Elliot, who is featured on the track and surprised everyone by appearing in the backseat.
With Elliot in the car, Corden easily coaxed her into leading them through “Get Ur Freak On,” which Mrs. Obama also nailed before saying goodbye.
Incidentally, all proceeds from U.S. iTunes purchases of “This Is For My Girls” supports the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Fund.
