(NEW YORK) — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is back in the driver’s seat for Fast 8, the next installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise.
The actor shared a photo of himself from the set Saturday as his character, federal agent Luke Hobbs. Johnson, who started filming last week, is sporting a leather jacket, tank top and a very long goatee.
“When you strip a man of all he has. All that’s important to him. You force him to return to his roots. and sometimes that’s a very dangerous and twisted place,” Johnson writes in the caption, adding, “If I was going to return for another ‘FAST & FURIOUS’ I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his ‘Daddy’s gotta go to work’ mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future.”
Fast 8 hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
Johson also confirmed in a separate post that he’s signed on to star in Doc Savage. Based on a series of pulp novels and radio serials beginning in the 1930s, Doc Savage was one of the inspirations for the Superman character – a globe-trotting, brilliant scientist, inventor and explorer whose mind and body have been trained to the peak of human perfection. No word on when we might see that movie.
