ABC/Randy Holmes(LONDON) — Will Smith, who famously boycotted the Oscars earlier this year, does not expect a nomination for the 2017 Oscars and he’s fine with that.

“There was a time in my life when box office was everything and if you didn’t get nominated you’re under the bed for three weeks and all of that,” the 48-year-old star of Collateral Beauty told the British talk show “Lorraine.” “It’s always fun to be invited to the party, but that’s all it can be.”

Smith echoed comments he made earlier this week to Variety, when he said he considers awards chatter to be more of a distraction.

“I am a little bit beyond that at this point in my life. Anytime that anyone likes it, I will take that,” he told the magazine.

In Collateral Beauty, Smith stars alongside Kate WinsletEdward Norton, Naomie Harris and Helen Mirren as an advertising executive grieving the loss of his 6-year-old daughter.

“He writes these three letters: He writes one to Love, one to Time and one to Death. In his deteriorated mental state, he mails the letters, and then Love, Time and Death respond,” the actor explained on “Lorraine.” “I thought that was beautiful conceit for a film, so I was in at that point.”

The movie especially resonated with Smith, who at the time “was dealing with the impending loss of my father.”

“My dad was given six weeks and lived for four months. I went to see him about three months in and he was like, “Man, this is embarrassing. You tell people you’re going to be dead in six weeks and three months later you’re still hanging around,'” Smith said, with his booming laugh.
