“The Voice” recap: The battle rounds continue with Adam Levine stealing an artist from Blake Shelton

767

NBC UniversalThe battle rounds continued Tuesday night on The Voice, as teammates went head-to-head for the right to advance to the next stage in the competition, a night that also saw Adam Levine steal an artist from Blake Shelton.

Each coach enlisted the help of a guest adviser during rehearsals: DNCE’s Joe Jonas for Team Adam, Rascal Flatts for Team Blake, ex-Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland for Team Jennifer Hudson and Billy Ray Cyrus for Team Miley Cyrus.

Here are the highlights of Tuesday night’s show:

Davon Fleming and Maharasyi, representing Team Jennifer led off the show. The two artists, who Hudson described as “soulful, R&B singers” faced off against each other on Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” Miley, who loved the entertainment aspect of the performance, called the battle a tie. Adam leaned towards Davon. Blake agreed, but also gave props to Maharasyi for holding her own against a more seasoned singer. JHud awarded the victory to Davon, who advances to the next round. Maharasyi was sent home.

Team Adam’s Brandon Showell battled Hannah Mrozak on “Cold Water” by Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber and MØ. Adam, addressing the camera prior to the performance, said the winner would be the artist who he “was unable to look away from.” Afterwards, the other coaches were mixed, with Blake giving the round to Hannah and Jennifer giving Brandon the edge. Adam declared the match dead even, but went with Hannah, who moves on to the knockout rounds. Brandon’s time on The Voice came to an end.

Blake then paired Dennis Drummond and Mitchell Lee for the next battle, noting each of them were “more rock than country.” They covered Counting Crows’ “Mr. Jones.” Miley liked Drummond’s “cool vibe,” but believed Mitchell had the strongest voice. Adam thought Mitchell was more in Blake’s wheelhouse, but called Dennis a “wild card.” In what Shelton declared his closest battle this season, he chose Mitchell, who moves on to the next round.

The competition wasn’t over for Drummond, however, as Adam, who fought hard for the artist, but lost out to Blake in the blind auditions, ultimately got his man, stealing him from Shelton.

Also on Tuesday: Team Adam’s Dylan Gerard and Team Miley’s Esera Tualo advanced to the knockout rounds. Dave Crosby and Rebecca Brunner — from Blake and Adam’s teams, respectively — were sent packing.

The Voice returns with more battles Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
