Once again, viewers were instructed to cast their real-time votes via The Voice‘s official app or Twitter. Fans advanced two artists per team into the top 12 and the results were revealed on the same night. The coaches also got to advance a third member from their teams.

Also, in a Voice first, host Carson Daly revealed that before the show, each coach got to pick a comeback artist from his/her team to rejoin the competition. Levine chose Johnny Hayes and Stefani picked Johnny Gates.

The artists advancing to the top 12 after Tuesday’s show are:

Team Adam: Jesse Larson, Lilli Passero and Mark Isaiah

Team Gwen: Brennley Brown, Hunter Plake and Troy Rainey

Daly also revealed that country superstar Shania Twain will be a key adviser for the top 12 artists next Monday.

First up were the six members of Team Gwen:

Stefani’s comeback artist, rocker Johnny Gates led off with a pop tune, Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself,” followed by New York indie/soul rocker Troy Rainey, who put his spin on Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.” Next, 14-year-old Quizz Swanigan, who was stolen from Alicia, sang The Temptations’ “My Girl.” Country singer Brennley Brown, 15, offered Maddie & Tae’s “Fly”; and Georgia native JChosen performing “Nothing Compares 2 U,” the Prince song popularized by Sinead O’Connor. Hunter Plake rounded things out for Team Gwen, tackling Sia’s “Elastic Heart.”

America saved Brown and Plake. Gwen added Rainey. It was the end of the road for JChosen, Swanigan and Gates.

The six artists for Team Adam were next:

Adam’s comeback artist, Johnny Hayes, led off with The Rolling Stones’ arrangement of The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” followed by 15-year-old pop singer Hanna Eyre, who belted out Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper.” Rocker Josh West, was next with Boston’s “More than a Feeling,” followed by Mark Isaiah singing “All Time Low” by Jon Bellion. Waitress Lilli Passero, who was stolen from Alicia, performed Carole King’s “It’s Too Late,” with blues singer Jesse Larson, who closing out the night by putting his spin on Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke.”

America saved Larson and Passero. Adam completed his team by picking Isaiah. Hayes, Eyre and West were sent packing.
