Mert & MarcusActor Joe Alwyn is British, so he can’t vote in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t happy that his girlfriend Taylor Swift is encouraging people to do so.
Billboard reports that on Thursday at the 2018 BFI London Film Festival, Joe was walking the red carpet to promote his upcoming historical drama The Favourite, when a reporter buttonholed him and asked about Taylor’s recent political posts.
“What did you make of Taylor Swift, all of her tweets and everything that have been going out, in terms of her political stance, we haven’t really seen that before?” asked the reporter.
“I think it’s great. I think it’s important and….yeah,” Alwyn replied before his publicist dragged him away.
Taylor’s former nemesis, Katy Perry, also spoke out in support of Taylor’s newfound political outspokenness. At the amfAR gala in Beverly Hills Thursday night, Katy was asked by Variety why she “liked” Taylor’s recent Instagram post about voting.
“Because she’s setting such a great example,” Katy said.
Via Instagram, Taylor has encouraged her fans to vote early for the elections, and has also endorsed two Democratic candidates in her adopted home state of Tennessee.
