ABC/Image Group LASelena Gomez wants you to know why she decided to volunteer for the anti-human trafficking organization, A21.
She tells E! that she felt she needed to do more than just donate money. She also wanted to dedicate her time to something bigger than her career.
“I think that it’s easy for someone in my position to maybe be associated with an organization because they feel it would be great, they can contribute dollar-wise. None of that is wrong,” she explains. “I think for me, I’ve been wanting something that I felt like I could contribute most of my time to, because I love what I do, but I feel a little selfish sometimes and I have always said that.”
Selena says she aims to use her platform to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking, which is happening abroad but also right here in the U.S. She recently shared photos on Instagram of her trip overseas to meet some of the victims of human trafficking.
Getting emotional, Selena says, “I want them to be seen, you know, so I want to be able to communicate that to them that they are beautiful, and I will do everything I can to get their story out.”
Aside from work commitments, Selena has been working five days a week at the A21 offices since March, but only revealed her involvement in an Elle cover story this month.
