Rihanna has been upping her screen cred of late — with forthcoming performances in high-profile movies like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Ocean’s Eight, and a turn in A&E’s Bates Motel. Now comes word that that Rihanna will star with Star Wars actor Adam Driver in a new music drama.
Variety reports that Rihanna has replaced actress Rooney Mara in the film Annette. According to the industry trade mag the move is “music-filled” with a script and songs written by brother Ron and Russel Mael, co-founders of the ’70s rock band Sparks.
Amazon Studios just acquired North American distribution rights, according to the magazine. The movie will be the English-language debut of director Leos Carax. Shooting is expected to begin this spring.
