Randall SlavinPitbull’s not only Mr. Worldwide — he’s also also Mr. Songwriter, and now he’ll be receiving a special honor for that particular talent.

The rapper will receive the first-ever Global Ambassador Award at this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame induction gala, scheduled for June 15 in New York City.  According to the Hall of Fame, the award was created to celebrate an artist who’s also a songwriter, and whose “music has true worldwide appeal, crossing genre, cultural and national boundaries.”

This award isn’t going to be given out every year, either — only when merited.

In a statement, Songwriters Hall of Fame co-chairmen Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff — themselves legendary songwriters and producers — say, “Pitbull’s success, creativity, tireless musical collaboration and his wide-ranging social activism make him the ideal songwriter-performer to initiate the SHOF Global Ambassador Award.”

Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees this year include Babyface, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Jay Z, Motown founder Berry Gordy, and three members of the band Chicago.

Pitbull’s new album Climate Change comes out on Friday.
