Niall Horan on One Direction’s future: “When that call does come…we’re back again”

ABC/Fred LeeWith so many members of One Direction releasing solo music and plotting tours these days, it seems unlikely on paper that the super-successful boy band will ever reunite.  But according to Niall Horan, 1D will return — he just doesn’t know when.

Speaking to the British paper The Sun, Niall says of the group’s hiatus, “It’s been a year and a bit already. We don’t want to put a time on it. But when that phone call does come, no matter whoever it comes from, we’re back again.”

Noting that he, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Liam Payne are all “doing our own thing,” Niall says it will probably be quite a while before they’re ready to get back together.

“You know I’m going to probably end up touring [my solo album], Harry will…end up doing the same, probably Liam, probably Louis, that’s a year — time adds up.”

As for the chances that the group would reunite with ex-member Zayn Malik, Niall says that’s “a conversation we haven’t had,” adding, “I’m sure the fans would love it and it would be great but…I don’t know.”

Niall does reveal, though, that he and the rest of the group communicate “all the time” using “big email chains,” and they all try to listen to one another’s music.  He also says he’s got presents to give Liam for his new baby son, Bear.

As for whether or not Liam and Louis’ adventures in fatherhood make him want to settle down, Niall says, “Not right now. I’m 23, I should be out dating and out with mates.”  However, he says he currently doesn’t have much of a love life since he’s so busy these days.

“If it happens, it happens,” he says. “I’ve got many years ahead for that.”
