Desiree Navarro/WireImageJustin Bieber sang in Spanish on the remix of the #1 hit “Despacito,” but lately, he’s been disappointing fans in concert because he doesn’t know the Spanish part well enough to perform it song live. Some fans have even thrown things at Justin for his failure to sing “Despacito,” but they should just chill.  After all, it doesn’t bother the guy whose song it actually is.

Luis Fonsi, who wrote and sings lead on “Despacito,” tells ABC Radio that he thinks people should cut Justin some slack. “I mean, obviously I would love for him to…learn it,” he tells ABC Radio. “I don’t blame him not knowing [the lyrics], and I think we have to give him a little bit of a pass because that’s not his main language.”

“We can’t expect the guy to just out of the blue get it perfectly,” he adds. “I mean, it’s obvious when he was recording the song he had the lyrics in front of him.”

Luis also says that he doesn’t take Justin’s failure to learn the lyrics personally, and gives him credit for bothering to sing in Spanish in the first place.

“He had a chance to record the chorus in English, we had a full English lyric, and he decided to take the time to record it in Spanish because he wanted to keep the originality of the song,” Luis tells ABC Radio. “So I actually applaud the fact that he took the time in the recording studio to do it, and he did a great job.”

Luis would love for him and Justin to be able to perform “Despacito” live in concert together one day, but for now, he says, “He’s on tour, he’s concentrating on his music, I don’t think we have to be so strict.”
