Liam Payne says One Direction’s hiatus has been “the most amazing thing so far”

Matthew BrookesWhile Directioners everywhere may disagree, at least one member of One Direction believes the group’s current hiatus — which has seen all of them release solo music — has been “the most amazing thing” in their career so far.

While attending the U.K.’s version of Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards, Liam Payne was asked whether there’s too much overlap due to the fact that he and his One Direction bandmates Niall Horan and Harry Styles are out promoting their solo songs at the same time.  Liam doesn’t think it’s a problem at all.

“We’re more than used to doing our own thing at this point, obviously they’ve been doing it a little bit longer than I have, granted,” Liam told the British paper The Daily Mail.  “I think it’s fine, everybody’s out enjoying themselves, everyone doing their own music.”

“I think this hiatus thing that we’re having at the moment — or whatever you call it  — has been the most amazing thing so far, because there’s a lot more of us going around!” he added. “And it’s really good.”

Liam, who recently welcomed his first child — son Bear — with girlfriend Cheryl Cole, is hyping his debut solo single, the Ed Sheeran co-write “Strip It Down.”  Harry’s released his self-titled solo album to rave reviews, while Niall is promoting his current solo hit, “Slow Hands.”

Meanwhile, Louis Tomlinson released a collaboration with dance music pioneer Steve Aoki in December.  And of course, former member Zayn Malik has scored a number of hits in the past year.
