Liam Payne says he’s “so proud” of One Direction members’ solo success

ABC/Heidi GutmanEvery member of One Direction — past and present — now has had at least one top-40 hit.  But Liam Payne, who currently has two hits on the chart — “Get Low” and “Strip That Down” — says there’s no competition between the guys…only respect.

“I’m so proud of everybody’s success,” he tells ABC Radio. “I think everyone’s gone out and also done what they wanted to do with music, rather than just hiding behind something, which I think is incredible.”

Liam’s first solo single, “Strip That Down,” was co-written by Ed Sheeran, who’d previously written material for 1D.  Liam says he’s thankful that Ed took the time to work with him, given that he’s just a little busy these days.

“It was great to work with Ed Sheeran again, I mean, at the height of his success, for him to think about me is amazing!” gushes Liam.

Not only did Ed co-write “Strip That Down,” but it’s his voice — electronically treated — that you hear on the track saying “Strip that down girl/love when you hit the ground.”  But Liam says there’s another take of the song where Ed does more than that.  “Strip That Down” features rapper Quavo, but Liam says when he first heard it, Ed was doing the rapping.

“There’s a version [with] Ed doing that Ludacris rap in the song ‘Yeah!’ on it, where he thought the rapper should go,” laughs Liam. “And it’s really really funny.”
