CBS/Kathleen Holloway(NEW YORK) —  As if there’s not enough politics on TV these days, the fifth season of Netflix’s Emmy and Golden-Globe-winning original series House of Cards returns on Tuesday. Series star Kevin Spacey, who plays power-hungry U.S. president Frank Underwood, says he can’t wait.

“I think it’s one of the most exciting seasons we’ve done,” he declares. “I think that I haven’t been this excited about a season maybe since the first season.”

So can the critically acclaimed series possibly compete with the griping drama that is real-life Washington? Spacey is pretty confident they can pull it off.

“This year in particular there’s been a lot of commentary about how, ‘Well, you know, we can’t compete with the real world, so it’s not going to be as interesting and the show can’t possibly be as crazy as the real world,'” says Spacey, “And my answer to that is just you wait. Just you wait.”

House of Cards also co-stars Robin Wright and Kate Mara.

Oscar winner Spacey will also be seen as the host of the 71st annual Tony Awards, which will be telecast will air live from the historic Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on Sunday, June 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern time on CBS.
