Kelly Clarkson says she may have a “small part” in creating a “kids thing”

Carter SmithKelly Clarkson loves musical theater and musicals, and she’s thrilled to be included on the new album The Greatest Showman Reimagined, which features pop stars singing new versions of songs from the hit Hugh Jackman movie.  While she’s never been in a musical herself — no, From Justin to Kelly doesn’t count — she may be involved in one behind the scenes.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kelly says, “I would really love to do something on Broadway one day. And honestly, I’m [exploring] the idea of doing a kids thing right now that might involve me a tiny bit.”

She explains, “I’m a mom and I always go to Broadway, and yeah, there’s Frozen, which is amazing, and there are a few things that are for kids, but there aren’t really new originals, like Annie…original things that make kids totally inspired and make you want to be a part of it.”

“So a couple of my friends and I are talking and I’m kind of working on something — but more behind the scenes — that might have a small part for me,” she finishes.

As for her doing Broadway, Kelly complains, “I don’t have the time! Like, we’re shooting a couple seasons of The Voice, and then I’m doing a talk show, and then we’re going on tour, so there’s just never time to do it.”

That’s why Kelly may have to settle for doing something onscreen.

“I love the idea of doing a movie musical because I also grew up on all the Barbra [Streisand] ones and the Bette [Midler] ones and all those,” she tells EW.

As for The Greatest Showman, Kelly’s a huge fan. She tells EW, “It’s very rare to have a movie musical that’s not cheesy but is, like, so moving and inspiring and just cool.”
