Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Live NationKanye West fans scored a major treat Thursday night when the rapper, entrepreneur and provocateur was the special guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!  During the interview, Kanye touched up his support for President Trump, his bipolar disorder, and even that controversial TMZ interview last May.

The conversation almost instantly turned political after West called Trump a “player.” Kimmel proceeded to press West on his support for the president.

“Everyone around me tried to pick my candidate for me,” Kanye said, “and then told me every time I said I liked Trump that I couldn’t say it out loud or my career would be over, I’d get kicked out of the black community.”

He continued: “So, even when I said it right before I went to the hospital and I expressed myself… When I came out I had lost my confidence. So I didn’t have the confidence to take on the world and the possible backlash. And it took me a year and a half to have the confidence to stand up and put on the hat. No matter what the consequences were.”

The conversation then shifted to West’s bipolar disorder, with Kanye explaining that in the black community, conversations about mental health and medication are rare.

“I think it’s good that when I had my first complete blackout at age 5, my mom didn’t fully medicate me,” Kanye said. “Because I might have never been ‘Ye. And there’s times where at least I’m happy that I know [I’m bipolar.] Like, even like for this interview, I knew I wanted to stay in a calm state.”

As for his comments to TMZ last May during which he declared “slavery is a choice,” West explained that during that interview, he was on a bipolar “high” and ideas were spewing out of him as if he had “Tourette’s.”

Kimmel also asked kanye if he views women differently now that he has daughters.

“No, I still look at Pornhub,” West answered. “Black is my favorite category.”
