The singer has just released a song called “Sober,” and introduced it on Twitter by writing, “My truth.”  The emotional ballad, sung in the present tense from the first-person perspective, finds Demi apologizing to everyone in her life for falling off the wagon.

However, it’s not clear if she’s actually describing something she’s going through, or describing something that happened in the past.

She sings, “Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore/And Daddy please forgive me for the drink spilled on the floor/to the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before/I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore.”

Demi also sings that “it’s only when I’m lonely” that this happens to her, and pointedly adds, “I’m sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again/ I wanna be a role model but I’m only human.”

The song ends with her singing, “I’m sorry that I’m here again/I promise I’ll get help/It wasn’t my intention/I’m sorry to myself.”

ABC Radio has reached out to Demi’s camp to find out more about what inspired this song.
