Halsey calls Iggy Azalea a “moron,” but apologizes for collaborating with Quavo

Brian ZiffHalsey is nothing if not outspoken. In an interview with the U.K. paper The Guardian, the singer dismisses rapper Iggy Azalea as a “f***ing moron.”

The comment came up as part of a discussion about why Halsey — who describes herself as “queer” and whose album includes a love duet with bisexual fellow pop star Lauren Jauregui — would collaborate with Migos rapper Quavo, given his controversial comments about homosexuality.

“I think he’s misunderstood,” she says. “Just because I choose to be a socially conscious artist, and I’m pretty good at it, that doesn’t mean every artist is going to be equipped to be politically correct…I can’t police everybody.”

When the interviewer argues that in fact, she can police the artists she chooses to feature on her albums, she lets loose on Iggy.

“Yes, I can,” says Halsey. “And there’s a lot of people I wouldn’t put on my record. Iggy Azalea: absolutely not. She had a complete disregard for black culture. F***ng moron. I watched her career dissolve and it fascinated me.”

Halsey herself is biracial, though she often is accused of lying about it.

Halsey has since taken to Twitter to apologize about including Quavo on the record.  She tweeted, “Honestly? I didn’t know that Quavo had made homophobic comments when I collaborated him. We’ve never spoken a word to each other.”

When a fan took her to task, saying, “why would you defend a rapper you’ve ‘never spoken a word to’ regarding lgbt issues when you + half of your fan base are lgbt?” Halsey replied, “I think thats an important point. I AM queer & I TRY to be understanding & want people to be educated. But im truly sorry for my misjudgment.”
