“Divide”: Ed Sheeran splits with Elton John’s management company

Monty Brinton/CBSJust two weeks ago, Ed Sheeran appeared at the recording of the upcoming CBS special I’m Still Standing: A Grammy Tribute to Elton John, and spoke about how close he felt to Elton, whose company manages his career. Now their relationship is changing — professionally, at least.

The British publication Music Week reports Ed’s manager, Stuart Camp, is leaving Elton’s company, Rocket Management, to run his company, called Grumpy Old Management, independently.  That means Ed’s leaving Rocket, too.

Camp’s company has been a joint venture with Rocket for the last three years.  He’s been with Rocket since 2007, and signed Ed in 2011, helping make him a superstar.

Apparently, though, there are no hard feelings. In a statement, Elton said, “After many incredible years of working together I would like to wish a heartfelt and fond farewell to Ed, Stuart and his team…It has been a very rewarding and exciting experience supporting them through their fantastic journey.”

Elton has spoken in the past about the guidance he’s offered Ed.  He told Rolling Stone, “The thing I love about Ed is he’s always asking for advice.” According to Elton, it was he who advised Ed to put his second album on hold and go on tour with Taylor Swift.
