At the event, held at LA’s Getty Center, Demi will be given the “Advocate” award.  Other honorees this year include Zendaya, who’ll get the Style Star award; Cate Blanchett, who’ll receive the Style Icon award, and Elle Fanning, who’s been named Breakthrough Style Star.

This follows Demi’s appointment as the Mental Health Ambassador for Global Citizen.  In her role, she’ll be working with refugees in Iraq.

She tells USA Today, “We’re working to put together an art system so that it can help them heal and use music, or whatever art form they want. Art helps people, and we’re putting together an initiative to work together to help people be able to express their emotions through art.”

“What I don’t think people realize is that these people have gone through so much, and they’re just like us,” she adds.  “I think it’s important to remember that they’re human, and no matter what their religion or skin color or what kind of person they are, they’re human and it’s important that we do whatever we can to help them.”
