We still don’t know the title or release date of Demi Lovato‘s new album, but she says it’ll have a more R&B sound than her previous work. In fact, she says the set reflects the artistic direction she’s been searching for.

“I think I really nailed my sound on this one,” she says of the new album.  As for why she wanted to go in a more soulful direction, she explains, “I really wanna use that part of my voice, and it’s something I’ve always listened to, something I grew up listening to, so naturally, it’s what I sing. And I wanted to sing less pop and more R&B pop.”

The first single from the album, “Sorry Not Sorry,” has a bit of that flavor.  She say, “We had an amazing time recording it and it just felt good, it felt right to come out with it as the first single.”

While we’re waiting to hear more of Demi’s new solo music, we’ve been enjoying “No Promises,” her collabo with the deejay collective Cheat Codes, which has sold five million copies. “When I heard it, I fell in love with the song, so I knew that I had to record it,” she tells ABC Radio. “I’m so glad I got to be a part of it.”

Now, Demi’s given us not one but two songs to jam out to this summer, but what’s her Song of the Summer? That would be Cardi B‘s “Bodak Yellow.”

“She goes hard!” laughs Demi. “I had never heard of her before, the song is catchy and it’s definitely a great workout song.”
