Island/Hollywood/SafehouseThree weeks after the overdose which put her in the hospital, Demi Lovato is on the road to recovery, but it’s a long road, reports E! News.

A source tells E! that Demi “will be in rehab for several months and is doing an extensive program to ensure she gets the help she needs.”  The 25-year-old singer is reportedly in Chicago working with a therapist who specializes in sobriety and mental health.

The source adds that Demi “hasn’t been in communication with anyone and is really focusing on herself.” While her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama is in contact with Demi’s family and “has been checking on [her] status,” the insider says that he hasn’t been able to speak with her because her family “is trying to make sure they eliminate all distractions.”

The good news, dishes the source, is that Demi is “doing much better.” Since she’s begun to understand that she “almost died,” she’s “become more open and is happy she is getting the help she needs.”

“Demi hopes to make a full recovery and be able to do the one thing she loves: Music,” adds the source.

At the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday, Demi’s friend Lauren Jauregui told ET, “I have spoken with her and honestly, I just send so much love.”

The Fifth Harmony member added, “We all go through our own struggles in life, and I feel like it’s incredibly brave of her to be so open about it…I just send her love and healing from whatever place I can. She knows I love her.”
