Camila Cabello recalls her disappointing first performance

Andrew Lipovsky/NBCCamila Cabello was Jimmy Fallon‘s musical guest on Monday’s The Tonight Show, and chatted with him about a number of things, including her first public performance, which, let’s just say didn’t go well.

“I remember I was in the fifth grade and I auditioned for The Little Mermaid in school,” recalls the 20-year-old former Fifth Harmony member, adding that she was forced to try out for the part.

“I was very shy. I didn’t even sing in front of my family,” she explains. “I didn’t wanna do any of that. But I had music class, [but] as part of the grade, you had to audition. And so I auditioned, gave it my all and I got ‘shark number two.'”

Sounds pretty easy, but Camila says she still managed to screw it up.

“Eric and Ariel were like giving each other the little kiss and I came out at the wrong time,” she confesses. “And I just hear everybody going, ‘No! Stop! Go back! Go back!’

Of course, that didn’t make her parents any less proud of their little girl. “They were like, ‘Yeah, that’s my shark number two that messed up!'”

Later, Cabello performed her latest single, “Havana,” from her upcoming debut solo studio album The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving.
