Travis SchneiderMore than 15 years into their career, Maroon 5 continues their winning streak on the charts: They’ve just scored their 13th top 10 hit with “What Lovers Do,” their collabo with SZA.  How have they stayed relevant for so many years?  According to the band, they simply outlasted everyone else.

“We’re not really concerned with staying relevant because I think we have stayed relevant for much longer than any of us expected,” laughs Maroon 5 guitarist James Valentine.

In fact, Maroon 5 has been around and been so successful for so long that they’re actually the group with the most top 10s in the 2000 and the 2010s.  Their first, “This Love,” came way back in 2004. According to James, the band’s longevity has surprised even them.

“We weren’t supposed to be around this long,” he tells ABC Radio. “I mean, look at all the bands that were around when we started playing 15 years ago, most of ’em have broken up by now.  So we’re very happy just to still be around and to still have people interested in the music.”

Maroon 5’s latest album, Red Pill Blues, debuted at #2 on the Billboard album chart.  They’ll kick off a tour in support of the album May 30 in Seattle.
