Insiders tell Billboard that Ari’s new album Sweetener is on track to sell more than 200,000 units, which will likely give her a #1 debut. If so, it’ll follow her first album, Yours Truly, and her sophomore album, My Everything, both of which also topped the chart. Her third album, Dangerous Woman, debuted and peaked at #2.
Ariana’s album was released amid multiple TV appearances, including James Corden‘s Carpool Karaoke, a Tonight Show tribute to Aretha Franklin, a high-profile performance and win at the MTV Video Music Awards, and an exclusive interview on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Billboard notes that the only thing that could stop the singer from topping the chart would be a sudden boost in sales for the current #1 album, Travis Scott‘s Astroworld, or blockbuster sales for Aretha Franklin’s 30 Greatest Hits, which re-entered the top 10 after only one day of sales following the Queen of Soul’s Death.
